Walking by faith is not believing whatever we wish to be true. Biblical faith rests on the God who has spoken and acts in obedience to His Word even when present circumstances do not make the path easy.
READ THE KEY PASSAGES
Begin with what
Scripture says.
2 Corinthians 5:7For we walk by faith, not by sight.
Hebrews 11:1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Galatians 2:20The life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God.
01
Faith has God’s Word as its object
Romans 10:17Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. It is not optimism, confidence in oneself, or a demand that God fulfill a private plan.
The believer trusts the character and promises of God as Scripture reveals them.
Faith rests on the Word God has spoken, not on a desired outcome or a passing feeling. Biblical faith is therefore different from wishful thinking; it trusts the faithful God even where sight cannot supply certainty.
02
Faith does not deny what is seen
Hebrews 11:6Without faith it is impossible to please him.
Paul does not tell believers to pretend suffering, weakness, or loss are unreal. He teaches them to interpret what is seen in light of God’s unseen and eternal promises.
Faith faces reality without allowing temporary circumstances to become final authority.
Walking by faith does not deny suffering, weakness, or loss. It interprets what is seen in the light of God’s unseen and eternal promises, refusing to make temporary circumstances the final authority.
03
Faith obeys in the present
Proverbs 3:5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart.
Hebrews remembers people who acted on God’s Word before they saw its full fulfillment. Faith is not passive agreement; it follows where God commands.
Obedience does not earn God’s favor. It is the fruit of trusting Him.
Faith obeys in the present. It does not presume on God by inventing commands He has not given, but it does act when His Word makes the path of obedience clear.
04
Faith looks to Christ
2 Corinthians 4:18We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.
The Christian life is lived by faith in the Son of God who loved His people and gave Himself for them. Faith does not rest in its own strength but in Christ.
That gives courage to continue, repent, serve, and wait with hope.
Believers are helped to walk by faith through Scripture, prayer, and fellowship with the church. These gifts correct self-deception and encourage endurance while the full fulfillment of God’s promises is still unseen.
